New Balance 15km race

Place : Lake Gardens
Time : 7.01am
Weather : 24-27 C
Course : Quite Hilly, as usual.
Slope Total : 137m
Time : 1hr 19min 19 sec

I reached the starting point with 2 minutes to spare, so it wasn't the best, timing wise. I didn't have the chance to work out my routine before the start.

The overall organization was well done, in line with the standards of the Pacesetters. There were mileage signs every km, 2 water stops, good traffic control and lots of volunteers.

I planned to complete it within 1hr 20min.

The start was quite slow as I tried to squeeze in at the start line. However, I was still pretty slow to get off the mark, finishing the first km in a turtle pace of 6:08. As we made our way up the hill, I pushed harder to make up for lost time and did pretty well in completing the 2nd km in 4:56. From there on out, I took a back seat and cruised at about a 11.3km/hr pace.

I took 2 drink stops at 7km and 10km with my own "special juice" - actually just some apple juice with some honey. There was a lot of foam after all the shaking and it did cause me to burp excessively....not good.

Coming down the last 5km stretch, instead of pushing up a gear or two, I still felt like cruising along, as I didn't want to over do it, with the upcoming 75k goal for next week to be done.

Only in the last 2km did I go into a higher gear. I finished in a good time, but I could have shave about a minute if I went into full press.

*Note* The first placed lady runner finished right behind me, roughly about in 1:08 I think...

All the usual foreign participants seemed to have given this run a miss, not sure why.

Looking forward to the peak week of 75k, which I hope I will get done in the following fashion;
Mon - Recovery 10km [10.5km done]
Tue - Fast 6km [zero]
Wed - Rest [18km]
Thurs - Easy 15km [zero again]
Fri - Tempo - 8km [11k]
Sat - Golf/Rest
Sun - LSD 36km [37km]
Total 75km...I hope.
