City Day Run 10.95km

Where : Dataran Merdeka
When : 7.30am (10k) 7.40am (7k) 8.00am (3k)
Distance: 10.95km
Route : Undulating for most part, certain parts of it had killer gradients!

The staging of this event was pretty good, based on the old hands on deck for FTAAA. With the starting area in front of the clock tower of the SAS building, it felt more like the starting point for the KL marathon than a mini event.

Nevertheless, participation was quite ok, with turnout about 1,700 participants (from the look of it anyway) and the organization was pretty much in order.

This was the first time I enrolled my kids to take part as well (for the 3km). So far I had to make doubly sure that we know where to meet after the race was over.

I read somewhere about the female announcer who handles the KLIM events in the past and guess what...she was the announcer for this event as well. And also, the serious faces of the officials/marshals along the route was a real turn off.

Due to the staggered start, I finished before the rest of the gang. It was not more than 15 minutes before everybody was back. Well, can't say the organizers didn't know how to run the show.

With the open space at Dataran Merdeka, it was pretty easy to spot them coming back despite the number of people around.

Only gripe was on the makan and drinks after the race, or rather, the lack of them. It seemed sad that sponsorship was not forthcoming although this event seemed to be pretty popular. Perhaps they should be creative in the next one to attract sponsorship, perhaps by making it into a charity event for orphanages, elderly etc.

All in all, pretty good event, and pretty much focused on the actual running than a fun fair event (like the ADUN and IOI Community run).

Next on the list.....Wild Wild Run by the der Pacemakers. Loved the New Year Run, looking forward to this one.
